Esther A. Schlafer

Services for Esther Schlafer, 88, of Sullivan were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Sullivan with Pastor Lew Ensor officiating. Burial was in Rock Hill Cemetery, Stanton, MO.

Visitation for Esther was from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Esther passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016.

Esther Annette Anderson was born on September 21, 1928 in Stanton, MO, to William and Esther (Brown) Anderson, one of twelve children. She grew up and attended Sullivan Schools. Esther was united in marriage to Curtis Schlafer on January 13, 1951 in Blytheville, Arkansas. Together, Curtis and Esther raised their family first in St. Louis, later moving to Sullivan. Esther’s family was the most important part of her life, especially her grandsons. She also enjoyed gardening and quilting. Esther was the last of 12 children.

She is survived by her children; Gregory Schlafer and wife Jo Ann of Berger, MO, and Jana Jannings of Sullivan; two grandchildren: Matthew Jannings (and wife Nicole) and Cory Jannings (and special friend Misty) all of Portland, OR,  two great-grandchildren; Sophie and Maddison; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; William and Esther (Brown) Anderson, her husband; Curtis Schlafer; six brothers; Orville, Melvin, Archie, Luther, Woodrow and Charlie; five sisters; Gladys Brown, Maudeline Hulsey, Hazel Wilhite, Dorothy Jeanis and Barbara Branson.

Memorials to Rock Hill Cemetery or St. Matthew Lutheran Church are appreciated.

Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
