Barbara Danis obit colorBarbara Nell Danis, of St. Clair, MO formerly of St. Louis passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the age of 89 years.

Barbara was born February 13, 1927 to Edna Jones and Earl Murphy at Joplin, MO. Her parents divorced when she was very young which caused her to have two residences and lived in both Oklahoma and MO. When her father was injured in an accident, Barbara had to fend for herself as a young teen and went to work as a waitress; a vocation which she held for the majority of her life. She was later married to Robert (Bob) Adams and to this marriage three children were born. They made their home in the St. Louis area and were married for 14 years before the marriage ended in divorce. Her most remembered jobs were in the food services area of Lambert Airport. She met several entertainers while working there and made many friends. Barbara later came to work for Pope’s cafeteria where she met her future husband William (Bill) Danis. Bill was employed at the Continental Can Company and Barbara later became employed in the company cafeteria. They later married on New Year’s Eve in 1966. They enjoyed going out and were fond of gambling, horse racing and traveling. Bill fell on hard times through an addiction with alcohol but decided to turn his life around and with Barbara’s help and support, made this time in their lives stronger and helped them to have a better future. In Barbara’s retirement years, she and Bill started attending church. Barbara worked in a Day Care that was operated by the church. She also later served samples at SAM’S Club. She and Bill often traveled to Branson, MO and loved listening to the country music. After Bill’s death in 2009, Barbara moved to Sullivan to live closer to her son and daughter. This move helped her to reconnect with her children and took many trips together by train to Kansas City to visit her older daughter. Barbara was known to say, “I have had a good long life and have been very blessed.” Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanton.

She is survived by three children; Edna Bradley and husband Tom of Kansas City, MO; Les Adams and wife Gina of Sullivan, MO and Joyce Montgomery and husband Terry of Sullivan; eight grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted 7 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Mr. James Eaton officiating. Interment was held on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Friedens Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. Visitation for Mrs. Barbara Danis was held from 3:30 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m., Saturday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home (Clark Street location) in Sullivan. The family desires memorials be made to the National MS Society in honor of Barbara’s granddaughter, Sarah Burch.
