Elsie Kirk obit colorElsie Jane Kirk (nee Mastin), Elsie, was Mother to her three children, Kathy Fehlig (Ken), Pattie Browning and Charles “Chap” Kirk (Sue); Loving Dano (grandmother) to 7: Ryan Fehlig (Laura) , Kara Swofford (Sam), Kelly Trimble (Josh), Jesse Kirk, Nikki Jones (Jim), Shannon Browning (Pat), and Tyler Kirk (Cami); great-grandmother to 8: Finley Trimble, Aleksandr Fehlig, Addison Trimble, Reese Trimble, Stella Swofford, Scott Swofford, Russell Jones and Caia Kirk.

She was born in Spring Bluff, the youngest of  seven children, to Kate and Jess Martin, living much of her early childhood in the very house that she resided until her death. Her family moved to St. Louis in the early 40’s and she graduated from Maplewood High School in 1943 at the age of 17. Her 27 year marriage to Charles Kirk ended in divorce in 1972. She was employed by Angelica Corporation/Life Uniform Co. for many years, which gave her the opportunity to travel the U.S. until she was able to retire.

Elsie was a remarkable individual; she loved her immediate and extended family, hosting the renowned annual family reunions since 1982. Even in her retirement, she had the zest for life, the drive and interest to accomplish things and the incredible energy, which was envied by many!! She was extremely independent; though in her later years she had spent the winter months in St. Louis with her daughter, Pattie when April came she couldn’t  wait to return to her home to plant flowers and resume hosting “game day” with her group of family and friends.  She had a passion for decorating and to this day it’s doubtful that anyone had participated in as many garage sales.

She had an undying faith in Jesus; active in Spring Bluff Missionary Baptist church and was re-baptized in 1990 to reaffirm her belief.  All of those left behind will grieve her passing, but are so very thankful that she lived a full and healthy life, that in death she did not suffer, and she will be graciously received in her eternal heavenly home.

Memorial funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Pastor Bob Murphy officiating.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home. Sullivan, MO.
