Jesse Franklin Thomas Cash

Jesse Cash obitJesse Cash, of Oldsmar, FL, formerly of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the age of 32 years.

Jesse Franklin Thomas Cash was born on April 19, 1983 to Burke C. Cash and Mary A. (Jost) Roberts in Sullivan, MO. He attended and graduated from Sullivan High School class of 2001. Jesse was extremely intelligent and ambitious. He started as a manager at U.S. Fidelis, then started a company called Reliant Auto Protection which grew exponentially. Three years ago, he moved his family to Florida and started a business, Protect My Car and was the Executive General Manager and part owner. This company grew from 5 to 180 employees. Jesse was a driven and hardworking man however his family was the most important part of his life. On September 20, 2008 Jesse was united in marriage to Lindsay Urbani in Big Sky, MT, and two children were born to their marriage, Rylee and Royce. He loved them will all his heart. Jesse enjoyed all things outdoors including; hunting, fishing, boating, gigging, skiing, hiking, golfing and riding motorcycles. He especially liked hunting on the Hinch farm. Just recently Jesse accepted Christ into his heart. 

He is survived by his wife Lindsay; his children, Rylee and Royce; his mother and stepfather, Mary and Ron Roberts of Oldsmar, FL; father and stepmother, Berke Cash and Christy Jarma of Stanton, MO; two brothers, Dalton Roberts of Bourbon, MO and Ron Roberts of Clearwater, FL; one sister, Samantha Cash of Bourbon, MO; grandparents, Roberta Deanne Weber of Sullivan, Franklin (Bud) Cash of Sullivan, Clarence and Erma Farmer of Sullivan; father and mother in law, Joseph and Sydne Urbani of Bozeman, MT; brothers-in-law, Joseph, Colter and Dylan Urbani all of Boseman, MT; other relatives and friends.

Jesse was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tommy Jost.

Memorial funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016 from the Funeral Home in Sullivan. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Roger Gale Mallory

Roger Gale Mallory 2-24 colorRoger Gale Mallory, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the age of 74 years.

Roger, as he was known by his family and friends, was born on October 13, 1941 to the late Robert R. and Marion (Morrison) Mallory in Denver, CO. He received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Management. His primary vocation was that of a self-employed roofer. After a time, Roger was employed in delivery logistics for The Rocky Mountain News. On February 27, 1982, Roger was united in marriage to Randi Jo Buckland in Whitefish, MT. Randi preceded him in death on April 19, 2006. In March of 2006, Roger moved to Sullivan. He was a true patriot and a die-hard Denver Broncos fan and an avid Harley-Davidson admirer.

He is survived by three sons, Chris Mallory of Camarillo, CA, Kevin Mallory of Sullivan, Nathan Mallory of Sullivan; five grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Mr. Mallory’s wishes were to be cremated. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Joseph H. Owens

Joe Owens obit colorJoseph H. Owens of Sullivan, Missouri passed away at his home on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the age of 90 years.

Joe was born at Potosi, Missouri on December 4, 1925 to the late Rev. Leonard and Ollie (Hill) Owens. At the age of 8 the family moved to Sullivan where Joe later gained his first employment as a GRIT Newspaper Boy and had his own route and the age of 10 years old. He graduated from Sullivan High School, Class of 1943 and soon entered military service and honorably served his country during World War II. Joe served with the 775th Army Air Force and his unit was based in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations for 18 months. Joe was responsible for signal equipment at Squadron Headquarters and was trained as a high speed radio operator. He maintained the records of all signal equipment and supplies as to status and location and supervised the work of 30 men. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was decorated with the Victory Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and two Overseas Service Bars. While in the Army, Joe excelled in sports, especially basketball and boxing. His unit would often play in tournaments and was the pride of his squadron. After his discharge, Joe attended the University of Missouri at Columbia and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He owned and operated the Sullivan Lumber Company for a number of years and eventually sold his interest and founded Meramec Lumber Company. Joe then became a partner of the former Thunderbird Terminal from where he later retired. On September 19, 1948 he was united in marriage to Helen Hombs at Columbia, Missouri and to this marriage three children were born. Helen preceded Joe in death on March 7, 1978. Joe was a Sullivan business pioneer; he was a founding board member of the Sullivan Hospital beginning with the feasibility study committee in 1958. He had been a member of the hospital board until April of 2015. Joe enjoyed the game of golf and was instrumental with other progressive businessmen in Sullivan in the creation of the Sullivan Country Club and became a charter member. He had a joy for flying and was an accomplished pilot. He was a 50 plus year member of the Sullivan Rotary Club and was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. Joe was also a 50 year member of Sullivan Masonic Lodge 69 AF & AM., and was a former member of the Sullivan School Board. His most beloved membership was that of his church, First Baptist of Sullivan. He was the oldest member having attended there for over 82 years and was the last WW II veteran within the congregation. Joe was known throughout the community as a kind and giving man who was always and foremost a gentleman. He was very knowledgeable and enjoyed learning. Joe was often known to say that his favorite book was the Encyclopedia. 

He is survived by his loving companion, Connie Delcour of the family home; one son, Joseph H. Owens II of Sullivan, Missouri; one daughter, Jayne Mastin and husband Ron of Sullivan, Missouri; six grandchildren, Justin Mastin of Sullivan, Missouri, Megan Mastin Schawo and husband Keith of Columbia, Missouri, Alison Owens Bramlett and husband Eric of Austin, Texas, Natalie Owens Moss and husband Robb of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kasey Krygiel of Leslie, Missouri and Abby Krygiel and Tab Arflack of Sullivan, Missouri; 12 great-grandchildren, Chase Mastin, Luke and Kate Schawo, Beck Bramlett, Evan, George, Jack and Thomas Moss, and Mikayla and Emory Wilkinson, Peyton Shepard and Karson Arflack; other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents and wife Helen, Joe was preceded in death by a daughter, Kaye Owens Krygiel; two brothers, Marvin and Lynn Owens; and a sister, Maxine Jones Wulfson.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2016 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry. Interment, with Military Honors, was in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4:30 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the Eaton Funeral Home (Clark Street location) in Sullivan. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital Fund Raising Charter. Rhonda Bolling 2-17 colorRhonda J. Mizzell Bolling, nee Brown of Bourbon, MO, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the age of 51 years after she lost a 7 year battle with ovarian cancer.

Rhonda was born on June 13, 1964 to James A. and Janet L. (Morgan) Brown in Kennett, MO. She attended Union High School. She was united in marriage to Darren Bolling on April 26, 2008 and they made their home in Bourbon. Rhonda was employed and retired from Paramount Cap Factory after 17 years. She loved her family and was adored by husband and children and extended family.

She is survived by her husband, Darren Bolling of Bourbon; her parents, James and Janet Brown of Leslie, MO; three children, Jim Mizzell and fiance’ Andrea of Sullivan, Jessica Mizzell of Sullivan, Alissa Bolling and fiancé, Billy Gartin of Lebanon, MO; step-children, Patrisha and Willie Richards; four grandchildren, Destiny, Madison, Carly and Isiaha; two sisters, Cindy Pannier and husband, Scott; and their children, Andrew, Lauren and Samantha of Imperial, MO, Pam Coxs and fiancé, Jim Brown of Owensville; father in law, James Bolling and wife, Janet of Sullivan; sister in law, Deanna Rhodes; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rhonda was preceded in death by her mother in law, Marilyn Bolling.

Funeral services were conducted 7 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with cremation to follow.

Velma L. Frutko

Velma Frutko obit colorVelma L. Frutko of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the age of 87 years.

Velma was born on November 23, 1928 at Bourbon, Missouri to the late Julius and Anna Ethel (Pennock) Jenkerson. At the age of 14 she left home and went to work in St. Louis. She had later moved to Park Forrest, Illinois with her family and had been employed in several places in Illinois. On November 10, 1959 she was united in marriage to Mitchell Frutko and to this marriage one daughter was born. After the death of her husband in October of 1991, Velma moved back to the Bourbon area. She enjoyed socializing and enjoyed people. She was particularly fond of dancing and participating in activities at the Cuba Senior Center.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Herold and husband Michael of Bourbon, Missouri; three grandchildren, David Turner, Matthew Herold and Michelle Hart; other relatives and friends.

Along with her husband and parents, Velma was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Luther, Elzie and Julius Robert (Jr.) Jenkerson and one sister Leona Montgomery.

Funeral services were conducted 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with cremation following the service. June Joan Sites

June Joan Sites 2-24 colorJune Joan Sites, age 84, passed to her eternal home on February 13, 2016 at Maranatha Village, Springfield, MO.

June was born on June 12, 1931 in Sullivan, MO to parents, Meredith Leon and Florence Emily (Isenhower) Bailey. She attended and graduated from Sullivan High school class of 1949.

June married the love of her life, Robert A. Sites on October 14, 1950. Together, June and Robert were faithful and dedicated servants of the Lord for over 44 years, pastoring churches in Missouri and Arizona and holding the position of District Superintendent. Robert and June ministered in every Assembly of God church in Arizona, and traveled all over the world teaching and preaching the Gospel.

June taught the adult Sunday school class at Eastside Assembly of God in Tucson, AZ for over 15 years. Many were touched by her knowledge of the Bible and her warm and endearing method of making the Word of God become active and practical in their lives. June was a talented speaker, soloist, and choir director. She was a gifted leader of ladies and ministers wives, and always enjoyed being with people of all ages. In her later years, she attended Central Assembly of God and Maranatha Chapel in Springfield, MO, where she remained active until the time of her home going.

June is survived, and was beloved beyond words, by her children, Douglas and Cindy Sites of Springfield, MO,  Deborah and Rev. George Flattery of Tinley Park, Illinois; five grandchildren, Christie Cummins and husband, Andrew, Rebecca Flattery, George Flattery, Charity Rose and husband, Jason, Jonathan Sites; two great-grandchildren, Georgia and Kinley Cummins; two brothers, Darrell Bailey and wife, LaRae of Bourbon, George Bailey and wife, Anna Belle of Sullivan; one sister, Florence Lattimore of Sullivan; nieces, nephews, a host of others who considered June their spiritual mother.

Along with her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Sites, a daughter, Diane Faith Sites, two brothers, Marcus Bailey and Larry (Pete) Bailey and wife, Wanda, one brother-in-law, Jerry Lattimore.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in I.O.O.F.  Cemetery, Sullivan, MO. A Memorial Service was conducted at Maranatha Village Chapel at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Charles Hammonds colorCharles J. Hammonds, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the age of 84 years.

Charles was born on August 22, 1931 to the late Charles M. and Minnie (Farrell) Hammonds in Sligo, MO. On March 7, 1992, he was united in marriage to Edna M. Ziegler in Leasburg, MO. Charles was employed as a mechanic for a time, but mostly as a commercial truck driver for several companies in the area. He loved spending time with his large family and in his free time enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, trading trucks, attending auctions and rodeos.

He is survived by his wife, Edna of the Family home; seven sons, Gary Hammonds and wife, Phyllis of Bremerton, WA, Timothy Hammonds and wife, Elizabeth of Cuba, MO, Richard Hammonds of Richwoods, MO, Terry Hammonds and companion, Patty Bachaus of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Michael Hammonds of Sullivan, MO, Charles Hammonds and wife, Polly of Martinsville, IN, David Day and wife, Cynthia of Sullivan, MO, and; four daughters, Cheryl Miller and fiancé, James Lewis of St. Clair, MO and Linda Hardin and husband, Charlie of Leasburg, MO, Christinia Messex and husband Sam of Richwoods, MO and Lorett Parnell and husband Christopher of Brookhaven, MS; 34 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2016 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, (Clark Street location) in Sullivan with interment in Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, MO. Visitation was held from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Mary Ann Sammet

Mary Ann Sammet obit colorMary Ann Sammet, of Beaufort, MO, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the age of 81 years.

Mary Ann was born on December 13, 1934 to the late Lawrence and Mary (Schull) Small in Jamestown, MO. She was united in marriage to Charles Otte in 1954 and two sons, Duane (D.J.) and Daryl were born to their marriage. After Mr. Otte’s death, Mary Ann was married to Raymond Sammet on February 24, 1962 and three sons were born to their marriage, Rodney, Stacey and Bryan.  Mr. Sammet also preceded her in death. Mary Ann was a very social and outgoing person and loved her family very much. She enjoyed playing Bingo, flower gardening and babysitting. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Union, MO and attended Saint Jordan’s United Church of Christ in Beaufort.

She is survived by four sons, Rodney Sammet and wife, Karen of Cuba, MO, Stacey Sammet and wife, Wanda of Beaufort, MO, Bryan Sammet of Beaufort, D. J. Otte and wife, Jeanette of Pacific, MO; two brothers, Robert Small of Union, Mike Small and wife, Doris of Union; two sisters, Virginia Marsch of Washington, MO, Beverly Gentry of Union; 9 grandchildren, Dylan, Amber, Amy, Brooke, and Dalton Sammet, Cassie Aslinger, Sara Meyer, Matthew and Adela Otte; three great-grandchildren, Mia, Skye and Lyric, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents and husband, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her son, Daryl Otte, grandson, Mario Otte, great-grandson, Ethan Otte, daughter-in-law, Tami Sammet and a sister, Evelyn Hawkins.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with interment in St. Jordan’s Cemetery, Beaufort, MO. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.


Virginia Frances Marshall

Virginia Marshall obit colorVirginia Frances Marshall, of Sullivan, MO, formerly of Syracuse, KS, passed away at her daughter’s home, Sullivan, MO, on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the age of 95.

Virginia was born June 10, 1920 in the Menno Township near Kendall, KS, to Charley H. and Annie Ruth Miller (nee Miller). She was raised in the Kendall, KS area and graduated high school there. On September 12, 1941, she married Charles Lemons. To that union one daughter, Julia Ann, was born. On February 4, 1951, Virginia was united in marriage to Kenneth Marshall in Syracuse, KS. They made their home there, where she worked several jobs over the years; Daugherty’s Drug Store, clerk at SCS office and ASCS office, city clerk, VIP bus driver, and Roy’s Jack and Jill. In 2004, Virginia and Kenneth moved to Sullivan, MO to be close to their daughter and resided there until her death. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Syracuse and just recently received her 50-year membership pin from the Lakin, Kansas Chapter of Eastern Star. Virginia enjoyed gardening and baking. Her favorite pastime was woodworking where she presented both daughters with handmade cedar chests for Christmas in 1989 that became their prized possessions. She was a devoted wife, mother, friend and Grammie who adored her family. If you had Virginia for a neighbor you had a friend for life.

Virginia is survived by one daughter, Valeta Betz and husband Charlie of Sullivan, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Dena Spechtenhauser and husband Dave of Peabody, KS, Sherri Eckermann and husband Rohn of Caldwell, KS, Christopher Eddy and wife Angel of Valley Center, KS, Kimberly Chappius of Washington, MO, Natalie Betz and husband Ken Wolterman of Madison, Wisconsin, Charlene Betz and husband David Wadsworth of Waukon, IA; 15 great-grandchildren, Calvin, Samantha, Victoria, Shelby, Richard, Lauren, Emily, Alex, Kira, Jadyn, Lexi, Anya, Evan, Ameila and Iris; 6 great-great grandchildren, Tayvin, Cruz, Stella, Jada, Maira and Julia; other relatives and many, many friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Annie Ruth Miller; a daughter, Julia Ann Lemons Eddy; 4 brothers, Hank Miller, Clare Miller, Fred Miller, and Don Miller; a sister, Margaret Miller; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Hernandez.

Visitation was held 1-2 p.m., Sunday, February 21, 2016 with memorial service at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Sullivan, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to HALO (Home at Last Organization, for homeless pets, Sullivan, MO) or First Presbyterian Church, Sullivan, MO, in care of Eaton Funeral Home, 347 N. Clark Street, Sullivan, MO 63080. A private ceremony scattering of ashes will be held in the spring at the Syracuse Cemetery, Syracuse, KS.

Patricia Ann Finazzo

Pat FinazzoPatricia Ann Finazzo, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016, at the age of 53 years. Pat was born in St. Louis on March 8, 1962 to Gloria and the late Sonny Rolands. She married her beloved husband, Jon Finazzo on November 21, 1985 and they moved to Sullivan area in 1998.

Dearest mother of Ryan; sister of Tammy (Ted) Biermann, Ron (Gail)  Roland and the late, Michael; daughter-in-law of Joyce and the late Jim Finazzo; sister-in-law of Janniece; dear niece, aunt, cousin and friend.

Service was held on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. and the funeral was held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at noon at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road. Interment at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

Charles H. Reynolds

Charles Reynolds 5 colorCharles H. Reynolds, of Troy, MO, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the age of 84 years.

Charles Hulon was born in Martin, TN to the late Jesse and Mattie (Holland) Reynolds. He was raised there for a time and later, moved to Sullivan, MO. Charles attended Sullivan High School but left his studies to enlist in the United States Army. He honorably served his country in the Korean War attaining the rank of Corporal. While in the service, Mr. Reynolds earned his GED. Charles was united in marriage to Nancy Schmitt. He was employed several years with RCA and later by General Electric as a service technician. He retired from GE in 1990. Charles enjoyed cars and fishing the Great Lakes. He delighted in knife and gun collecting and the martial arts.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Reynolds of Viburnum, MO; a daughter, Angela Reynolds of Troy, MO; a son, Joseph Christopher Reynolds of Cape Girardeau, MO; one sister, Mary Poole of Sullivan, MO; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his son, Charles Phillip Reynolds and one brother, Bob Reynolds.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Mr. Albert McGhee officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan, MO. 

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Lois June Mueller

Lois MuellerLois J. Mueller, 85, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Meramec Nursing Center in Sullivan, MO. She was born in Old Monroe, MO June 4, 1930 to Anthony A. Yamnitz and Mary E. (Hartle) Yamnitz. She was raised in Perryville, MO. She was married to Norman Mueller from 1951 to 1991.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Denver Yamnitz, Donald Yamnitz, Delmar Yamnitz; 3 sisters, Grace Yamnitz, Hazel Short, Faye Slattery; and her first born son, Norman Eugene.

Survivors include children, Larry (Myra) Mueller of Branson, MO; Cynthia (Walt) Wyatt of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Pamala (Kenneth) Zahner of Perryville, MO; Timothy (Tina) Mueller of Perryville MO; and Rebecca (Nathan) Webb of Sullivan, MO. She has 8 grandchildren: Ryan,  Megan,  Joshua,  Stefani, Courtney, Nathan, Ericha, and Gavin; and 9 great-grandchildren: Trista, Bradyn, Aiden, Graeme, Landon, Merrick, Rhyse, Torin, and Josie.

June has many nieces and nephews that were special and dear to her heart, always wanting to know what was going on in their lives. She had one special nephew, Lee Short, of California, that she grew up with and was raised with her like a brother. 

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, MO and a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Sullivan, MO, after she moved to Sullivan in 1983.

She owned and operated June’s Ceramics in Perryville, MO, for 12 years. In Sullivan, MO, she worked as a sales clerk in Rexall Drugs Pharmacy and Walmart Pharmacy, was a member of the VFW, the TOPS organization for 20 years and a volunteer with the Missouri Baptist Hospital Ladies Auxillary.

June enjoyed countless crafts, mostly known for crotchet blankets that she made for every family member and donated to many local events.  Through the years, she loved gardening, bowling, playing cards and BINGO with her friends. She loved sunbathing by the pool and enjoyed social gatherings with friends and family. June cherished time with so many people that she always seemed to know someone wherever she would go.

Visitation and services was at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Sullivan, MO, on Friday, March, 4, 2016. Visitation was from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.  with funeral service following at 12 p.m. Graveside service and burial  was on Saturday, March 5, 2016, in Yount Community Cemetery in Perry County, MO, at 1 p.m.

Joan, as she was known by her family and friends, was born and raised in Desloge, MO on November 11, 1932 to the late Charles Oscar and Essie Elizabeth (Newcomb) Reed,  and came to Sullivan in 1959. On August 31, 1955, she was united in marriage to James Wilson Morris and to this marriage two children were born. From 1960 to 1968, she was employed as a nurse’s aide in the office of Dr. John de la Torre. Joan later student taught in the Francis Howell School District and soon after taught school at Sullivan Junior High. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from UMR and later attended Webster University, working toward her Master’s Degree. Joan enjoyed literature and reading, gardening and cooking. She was especially fond of meeting with her friends over coffee. Joan was a member of the Episcopal Church of St. John and St. James of Sullivan. 

She is survived by a son, Tim Morris of Washington, MO; a daughter, Sally Mullally and husband, Kevin of Cuba, MO; six grandchildren, Sean, Colin, and Kevin C. Mullally, Austin, Paige and Payton Morris; one great-granddaughter, Kendall Mullally; other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, James Morris.

Funeral services were conducted at 12 noon, Thursday, March 3, 2016 from the Episcopal Church of St. John and St. James in Sullivan with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

callie reid obitCallie Ann Reid, age 43, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on March 4, 2016.

She was born in St. Louis, MO on April 18, 1972 to Shirley and Donald Reid and preceded in death by her loving mother. Callie is survived and mourned by her father, Donald Reid, loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, step sister Jill, step brother Danny, special companion Joey, special dog Shelby, and many dear friends.

Callie loved life and was strong in spirit and action. She encountered numerous challenges but strived to overcome each and every one. As a friend, she was loyal; as a cousin and step sister, she offered help when needed; and as a daughter, she expressed love and compassion as she took care of her mother during a long illness, and she will always be her father’s No. 1 daughter.

Callie Ann’s untimely death leaves a void in far too many lives. She touched everyone in a special way and will always be treasured.

Barbara Nell Danis

Barbara Nell Danis of St. Clair, MO, formerly of St. Louis passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the age of 89 years.

Barbara was born February 13, 1927 to Edna Jones and Earl Murphy at Joplin, MO. Her parents divorced when she was very young which caused her to have two residences and lived in both Oklahoma and Missouri.  When her father was injured in an accident, Barbara had to fend for herself as a young teen and went to work as a waitress; a vocation which she held for the majority of her life.  She was later married to Robert (Bob) Adams and to this marriage three children were born. They made their home in the St. Louis area and were married for 14 years before the marriage ended in divorce. Her most remembered jobs were in the food services area of Lambert Airport. She met several entertainers while working there and made many friends.  Barbara later came to work for Pope’s cafeteria where she met her future husband William (Bill) Danis. Bill was employed at the Continental Can Company and Barbara later became employed in the company cafeteria. They later married on New Year’s Eve in 1966. They enjoyed going out and were fond of gambling, horse racing and traveling.  Bill fell on hard times through an addiction with alcohol but decided to turn his life around and with Barbara’s help and support made this time in their lives stronger and helped them to have a better future. In Barbara’s retirement years, she and Bill started attending church.  Barbara worked in a Day Care that was operated by the church. She also later served samples at SAM’S Club. She and Bill often traveled to Branson, Missouri and loved listening to the country music. After Bill’s death in 2009, Barbara moved to Sullivan to live closer to her son and daughter.  This move helped her to reconnect with her children and took many trips together by train to Kansas City to visit her older daughter.  Barbara was known to say, “I have had a good long life and have been very blessed.”  Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanton.

She is survived by three children; Edna Bradley and husband Tom of Kansas City, MO; Les Adams and wife Gina of Sullivan, MO and Joyce Montgomery and husband Terry of Sullivan; eight grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted 7:p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Mr. James Eaton officiating. Interment was held on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Friedens Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. Visitation for Mrs. Barbara Danis was held from 3:30 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m., Saturday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home (Clark Street location) in Sullivan. The family desires memorials be made to the National MS Society in honor of Barbara’s granddaughter, Sarah Burch.

Geraldine Mullen obit colorAlice Geraldine Mullen of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the age of 91 years, two months and five days.

Sister Gerry, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on December 30, 1924 at Bourbon, Missouri to the late Royal and Dorthea May (Kruse) Cartwright. On November 19, 1952 she was united in marriage to Pastor Oliver Mullen and to this marriage two children were born. Sister Gerry was known to all as a singer, piano player, seamstress, gardener, canner, cook, Sunday school teacher crafter, birdhouse builder, wife, mother and grandma. But most importantly, she was a soul winner for Jesus.

She is survived by her husband Pastor Oliver Mullen of the family home; two children, David Mullen and wife Jeannie of Sullivan, and Alice Hewkin and husband Mark of Sullivan; one sister, Emma Murphy and husband Dale of Bourbon, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Moreland and husband Joe, Mark Hewkin II, Matthew and Marissa Hewkin; 2 great-grandchildren, Lexie and Aiden Moreland; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Sister Gerry was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, James, Walter and Paul Cartwright; and two sisters, her twin sister Pauline Ramstein and a sister in infancy Dorthea Mae Cartwright.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 from New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Charlie Idelman officiating. Interment was in Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. Visitation was held from 9:30 until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. John Lopez Castilleja obit colorJohn Lopez Castilleja, Jr. of St. Louis, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the age of 37 years, 11 months and 2 days.

John was born in St. Louis, MO, on March 29, 1978 to Brenda Kay (Prewitt) Castilleja and the late John Lopez Castilleja, Sr. He had lived in the St. Louis area until the age of 9 when the family moved to the Bourbon, MO area. John lived off and on in both the Bourbon and St. Louis area for 20 years and then the past 15 years lived in St. Louis. John was an electronics specialist and fabricator and was employed at Auto Erotica and was recognized as a leader in his field of expertise. John was also a member of many Industrial Organizations relating to his technical field through social media. He enjoyed making people laugh and had a wonderful smile. He delighted in being a prankster and was loved dearly by his family and all who knew him. Living in a close-knit family, he enjoyed all of his family ties and was a true people person and didn’t know a stranger. John loved music and was also an accomplished photographer.

He is survived by children; Destiny Marie, Morgan Nicole, Cierra Kay and Skylar Agnes Castilleja and Kendyl Chanelle Baker, his Mommas, Brenda Prewitt-Lago and Gleid Nara Lago; his soul mate and partner, Rhonda Casey of St. Louis, two brothers, Timothy Castilleja and wife Beth, and Jeremy Castilleja; nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his father John Lopez Castilleja, Sr. on August 15, 1977 and his grandmother, Maxine M. (Hall) Black.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with cremation to follow. Visitation for John Castilleja was held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Ben A. Dunakey obit colorBen A. Dunakey, of Bourbon, MO, passed away February 29, 2016 at the age of 60 years.

Ben was born on April 16, 1955 in Anchorage, AK to Ben B. and Dorothy E. (Hobbs) Dunakey. His family being in the military; Ben lived in various places around the country. However, the majority of his life was lived in the Sullivan area and he later graduated Sullivan High School with the Class of 1974. Ben later attended college in Neosho, MO, taking classes in water quality and wastewater management. Eventually, he became employed with the City of Tulsa, OK, in their water management department. Ben was known as a knowledgeable individual and was always truthful in his dealing with family and friends. As his children were growing up, he helped manage and coach their baseball teams and also participated in the children’s basketball and soccer teams. Ben was very proud that he helped set-up and build a couple of “Sober Houses” in the Tulsa area while he himself was battling a past dependence problem.

He is survived by one daughter, Ashley “Rae” Dunakey of Bourbon, MO; one son Matthew Dunakey of Tulsa, OK; two sisters, Ruth Anna Cowan and husband Jim of Ellisville, MO and Midge Cummings of Valley, Park, MO; two grandchildren, Caleb Higgins and Chloe Dunakey; other relatives and friends. Ben was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother David Dunakey.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Mr. Ralph Green officiating. Cremation followed the service. Visitation was held from 12:30 until time of service at 2 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Glenn H. Kage, Sr. obit colorGlenn H. Kage, Sr. of Cuba, MO passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the age of 80 years.

Glenn was born on July 19, 1935 in St. Louis, MO to the late James Jay and Maxine A. Shaw Kage. He lived the majority of his life in St. Louis and on February 13, 1954, was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Buchheit in Lemay, MO and seven children were born to their union. Glenn was a 60-year member of the Electricians, IBEW Local #1 and instilled his work ethic and sense of adventure into his children. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a loving and giving father and grandpa. His family meant everything to him and he loved them with all his heart. In his free time, Glenn enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, hiking and camp ground hosting. He was a devout Catholic and was a charter and former member of the Knights of Columbus Father Paul Sutter Chapter in Sullivan. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cuba, MO.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kage of Cuba, MO; two sons, Glenn H. Kage, Jr. and wife Mary of Sullivan, MO, Jay Kage and wife Kate of Sullivan, MO; five daughters, Vicky Kassing and husband Cris of Sullivan, MO, Terri Politte of Sullivan, MO, Tina McGinnis and husband Don of Cuba, MO, Tracy Kackley and husband Bill of Bourbon, MO, Kelli Rapp and husband Rusty of Bourbon, MO; 27 grandchildren- 35 great-grandchildren; one brother, Mel Warden and wife Ann of Arnold, MO; one sister, Barb Beaston of Mascoutah, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Along with his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and Richard Lauer.

A memorial mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Cuba, MO with Father Richard Boever officiating. The family received friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Cuba, MO. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Steven J. Valley

Obit pic edited colorSteven J. Valley, age 33, of Belle, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Steven was born on December 4, 1982, in Rolla, a son to James C. and Aileen Hazel (Skaggs) Valley. They both survive in Belle.

Steven attended the Belle School system and later earned his GED.

On October 7, 2006, Steven was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jessica Lynette (Bryant) Valley. She survives at their home near Belle.

Steven was employed as a laborer for Local Union #662. 

Steven enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping and was a master chef when it came to BBQing. Some of his greatest memories was taking his children along with him when he went hunting or fishing. Steve was always there to help people if they needed it. He was a very generous person with a heart of gold. Steven was not afraid to do anything or to help anyone and was always there for his parents. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents and spouse of nine years, Steven is survived by: his  four children, Dakota Lee Valley, Jessalynn Hazel Dean Valley, Stevie Marie Valley and Dane James Valley, all of the home; two sisters, Shirley Michelle Crider and her husband Kevin of Maywood and Salina Sharp and her husband Andy of Sullivan; paternal grandmother, Geraldine Valley of Vichy; brother-in-law, Michael Bryant of Buckhorn; sister-in-law, Amanda Valley and her husband Nathan of Belle; mother-in-law, Pamela Bryant; father-in-law, Anthony Bryant; several nieces and nephews, one great niece and one great nephew, along with many extended family and friends.

Steven was preceded in death, by an infant daughter, Manda Michelle Valley, paternal grandfather, Lawrence Valley, and maternal grandparents, Charles and Ruby Skaggs along with several aunts and uncles.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle. Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m. with Brother Bill Perkins officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery near Belle.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the family of Steven J. Valley.
