Scarlett May Windle

Scarlett Windle obit colorServices for Scarlett Windle, age 45, of Bourbon, MO, were conducted at 5 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2017 at First Assembly of God in Bourbon with Pastor Derik Ruble officiating.

A gathering of friends was held from 4-5 p.m., Sunday at First Assembly of God in Bourbon.

Scarlett passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Scarlett May Boyer was born on March 26, 1971 to Roger Dale and Anna May (Eldridge) Boyer in Sullivan, MO, where she attended school. She was employed by Hardy’s before meeting her future husband, David Paul Windle. They were married on December 15, 1989 at First Assembly of God in Bourbon. David and Scarlett were blessed with two children; David II and Anna May. They raised their family together and two grandchildren were eventually added; David III and Dale May. Scarlett’s hobbies included crafting, painting and beading. She loved her children, grandchildren, extended family and church family. Scarlett was a strong Christian lady who stood firm in her faith even while battling Ovarian Cancer. She will be missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her husband David Paul Windle of Bourbon; two children, David Paul Windle II of Bourbon, Anna May Windle of Bourbon; her mother, Annie Boyer of Bourbon; two grandchildren, David Paul Windle III and Dale May Windle; one brother James Boyer and wife Laurie of Bourbon; one sister Phillina Jarvis and husband Nathan of Waynesville; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives and friends.

Scarlett was preceded in death by her father; Roger Dale Boyer; grandmother, Birdie Eldridge and various aunts and uncles.

Memorials to St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Foundation are appreciated.

Gregory Paul Bizzle

Gregory BIzzle pic with glasses colorGregory Paul Bizzle, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Washington, MO, on January 19, 2017, having reached the age of sixty-three years, three months and fifteen days. Greg was born in Washington, MO, on October 4, 1953, son of Hershel Cecil Bizzle and Ella Belle Bizzle nee Basham. As a young man, he was united in marriage and blessed to have two daughters.

Greg is survived by his daughters, Jessica Bizzle and Shane Verrett, of St. Clair, MO, and Amanda Bizzle of Ormond Beach, FL; by three grandchildren, Mason Bizzle of Ormond Beach and Lilly and Jett Verrett of St. Clair; by five brothers, Wayne Bizzle of St. Louis, MO, Connie Bizzle and wife, Sharron, of Rhode Island, Jerry Bizzle of Columbia, MO, Larry Bizzle of Troy, MO, and Ronnie Bizzle and wife, Alberta, of St. Louis; by his former wife, Nancy Bizzle of Ormond Beach; by his former mother-in-law, Frances Ignacio of St. Clair; by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Ella Bizzle, and by an infant sister, Phyllis Jean Bizzle.

Greg was a Christian, believing in the Lord as his Savior. He faithfully read his Bible every day. He was proud to have served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army, entering August 16, 1971 and receiving his honorable discharge on August 15, 1973. After his discharge from the military, he began his career as a machinist. Greg was a member and retiree of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local 837 of St. Louis, MO. He had been employed by McDonald Douglas, later known as Boeing, in St. Louis, MO, retiring after thirty-seven years of service to the company. He was an outdoorsman at heart and enjoyed many outdoor activities. He was passionate about riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and had made many friends through biking. Fishing and hunting were other hobbies he enjoyed. Each summer, he gardened and shared the produce with his family. Greg enjoyed listening to music of all kinds. He had a great appreciation for the beauty of nature and reflected this in the photos he took, as photography was another of his hobbies. Greg’s grandchildren were his pride and joy and babysitting and spending time with them gave him great joy.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Ben Kingston officiating. Interment with full military honors was held in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair, MO.

Ruth Marie Cartwright

Ruth Cartwright obit colorRuth Marie Cartwright, of Rolla, passed away peacefully in the company of her loving and devoted husband on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the age of 83.

She was born in Cuba, MO, on April 6, 1933 to the late Ralph Kitchen and Elsie (Licklider) Kitchen.

Ruth is survived by her husband Norman Cartwright. The two were united in marriage in Corinth, MS on June 24, 1953 and were blessed with 63 years of marriage together.

Ruth worked for 3 years as a school teacher at the Dent-Phelps R-3 School. Her primary work consisted of serving in ministry as a pastor’s wife for 63 years and being a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the accordion, piano and organ. Other interests included growing beautiful roses, traveling and gospel music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cindy Cartwright and one brother, Edwin Kitchen.

She will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes her husband, Norman Cartwright, of their home in rural Rolla; four children, Daniel Cartwright and wife Judy, of Anutt, MO, Dwayne Cartwright and wife Julie, of Moncks Comer, S.C., Lorena Case and husband Dennis, of Lecoma, MO, and Darla Seelke and husband Robert, of Rolla; two brothers, Floyd Kitchen and wife Wilma, of Leasburg, MO and Marvin Kitchen and wife Dee, of St. Charles, MO; one sister, Charlene Kauffman and husband Tony, of St. Louis, MO; eleven grandchildren, Sean Cartwright, Angela Arthur, Joe Cartwright, Josh Cartwright, Jon Cartwright, Jenna Weldon, Jeff Case, Emily Case, Hannah Mason, Kendra Satterly, and Ryan Seelke; twenty-seven great grandchildren; other extended family members and many dear friends.

A service celebrating  and honoring the life of Ruth Cartwright was held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at the First Assembly of God in Rolla. Interment to follow in the Anutt Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends was held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at First Assembly, 17th and Oak Street, Rolla. Memorial contributions are suggested to Water For All International, please memo your check, Aaron and Hannah Mason.

Lola Lea Rock

LolaRockPict1Lola Lea Rock, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life at her daughter’s home, surrounded by the love of her family, on January 27, 2017, having reached the age of seventy years, ten months and fifteen days. Lola was born in Anaconda, MO, on March 12, 1946, daughter of William Paiton Phillips, known to all as Pate, and Helen Phillips nee Stager. On November 25, 1972, she was united in marriage to Charles Joseph Rock, Sr., known to all as Joe, and two children came to bless this union.

Lola is survived by her children, Charles Joseph Rock, Jr., known to many as Little Joe, of Sullivan, MO, and Annelle Weirich of  St. Clair, MO; by her grandchildren, Mikayla and Jacob Weirich of St. Clair; by three brothers, Robert Phillips of St. Clair, William Phillips and wife, Hatsue, of Seal, CA, and John Phillips and wife, Debbie, of Virginia Beach, VA; by one sister, Dorothy Osborn of St. Clair; by two sisters-in-law, Joyce Phillips and Violet Love, both of St. Clair; by many nieces, nephews, great, great-great and great-great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Pate and Helen Phillips; by her husband, Joe Rock, Sr.; by one brother, Theodore Phillips, and by two sisters, Gladys Carver and Viola Cook.

Lola was a Christian and lifelong member of New Chapel Hill Church near Sullivan, MO. During her working years, she had been employed as a machine operator for Von Weise Gear Company in St. Clair, retiring after over twenty years with the company. Lola was happiest when she was outdoors.  She loved to go fishing with Joe and her children and loved working in her yard.  Raising beautiful roses was a favorite hobby. Woodworking was another of her hobbies and she took pride in the items she made. Lola loved animals and she enjoyed having horses and going on trail rides. She also feed the birds and other wildlife near her home. In the past several months, her little Shiatsu grand-dog, Gigi, was her constant companion. Lola was an avid Cardinal’s baseball fan and in recent years, enjoyed watching the televised games. Lola’s children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she cherished the relationship she had with each of them.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Paul Niemoeller officiating. Interment was in New Chapel Hill Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

Elneda Steen Manion

Elneda Manion obit colorServices for Elneda Steen Manion, age 96, of Sullivan were conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan, MO, with Pastor Scott Perry officiating.

The family  received friends from 9-11 a.m., Saturday at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan.

Mrs. Manion passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Presbyterian Manor in Rolla, MO.

Elneda was born on February 24, 1920 in Sullivan, MO to Leslie and Ruth (Dorson) Cain. She attended and graduated from Sullivan High School. Elneda’s mother passed away at an early age and her grandmother Cain and Aunt Jane Cain raised her.

On January 5, 1943, Elneda was united in marriage to Charles Steen in Union, MO and three children were born to their marriage; Charles “Nick”, Bob and Sue. Elneda was employed by the shoe factory until it closed and then she worked for Dr. Robert Crawford as his receptionist until she retired. Later in life, Elneda married Jim Manion who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Manion was a member of the Sullivan Chapter of Eastern Star #105 and Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan where she was the oldest surviving female member. Elneda was a kind and loving person and will be missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Manion is survived by children, Sue (Bob) Lewis of St. James, Charles (Teri) Steen of Lantana, FL and Robert (Vicki) Steen of Keller, TX; 8 grandchildren, Christina Steen, Katherine Williamson, Troy Steen, Christopher Steen, Todd Steen and wife Leighanne, Tricia Steen, Kelly Miller and husband Donnie and Brittany Earl and companion Brad; 10 great-grandchildren, Tina, Charlie, Gracie, Kayden, Dylan, Joey, Riley, Emma, Lily and Briley; two step-granddaughters, Samanatha Pearson and husband, Brian and family and Tabby Lewis; one sister, Peggy Pritchett of Malden, MO, the extended Manion family; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Manion was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Ruth Dorson Cain; husbands, Charles E. Steen and James Manion; six siblings, Gilbert, Wilbert, Jerry and Merle Cain, Frances Weber and Naomi Briscoe; and one granddaughter, Laura Steen.

Bradley Wid Bizzle, Sr.

Brad Bizzle obit colorServices for Brad Bizzle, Sr., age 45, of Springfield, MO, formerly of Sullivan, were conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with burial in Cave Spring Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m., Friday, at the Eaton Funeral Home.

Brad passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 in Springfield, MO as the result of an accident.

Bradley Wid Bizzle was born on September 7, 1971 in Sullivan, MO to Carl L. Bizzle and Vickie J. Mozingo Bizzle. He attended and graduated from Sullivan High School and married his high school sweetheart, Colleen Dunn on March 10, 1990 and they had two children together; Bradley Jr. and Melinda. He later had another daughter, Shannon. He loved all of his children very much. Brad was an outgoing person who never met a stranger. He loved adventure and living his life on the edge. He was a great storyteller with a great sense of humor and he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his Grandpa Noel. Brad also enjoyed listening to country music especially Kenny Chesney.

Brad is survived by his children;Bradley Bizzle, Jr. and wife Hanna of Ballwin, Melinda Bizzle and Shannon Dixon both of Sullivan; his mother, Vickie Bizzle of Sullivan; his father, Carl Bizzle and wife Susan; one granddaughter, Avery Bizzle of Sullivan; one brother, C.J. Bizzle of Sullivan; one sister, Angie Bizzle; two step-sisters,  Kayla Watters and husband Derek, and Brittney Bethel and husband Christian, all of Sullivan; grandparents, Noel and Shirley Goodman of Sullivan and Dale and Gloria Blankenship of Union; two nieces,Brianna and Tori Studdard; cousins, other relatives and friends.

Brad was preceded in death by his brother, Shannon Bizzle; grandparents, Bessie and Wid Bizzle, James Mozingo; great-grandmother, Mary McMillan; and uncle Russell Blankenship.

Memorials to Shriner’s Hospital for Children are appreciated.

Barbara Jean Hughes Dondero

Barbara Dondero.color-Services for Barbara Jean Dondero, age 87, of Sullivan, were conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment to follow in Meramec Hills Memorial Garden, Cuba, MO.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m., Monday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Barbara passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Crabapple Village in St. Clair, MO.

Barbara Jean was born on August 21, 1929 in Sacramento, CA, to the late Antonio and Mary Sanchez. She grew up, attended and graduated from school in Pleasanton, CA. She was united in marriage to Bernie Hughes and four children were born to the marriage; Marsha, Steve, Mark and Matthew. The Hughes family moved between California and Missouri several times, settling in Missouri in 1974. Barbara was employed in the Heath Care Industry for a time and later as a bookkeeper in the family business, B & B Package, in Steelville.  Mr. Hughes preceded Barbara in death in1984. She later married Chester Dondero in 1994 and they resided in Sullivan before his death on May 23, 2008. Barbara enjoyed flower gardening, reading, and playing cards. But her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her children, Steve Hughes and special friend Martha Patterson of Union, Mark Hughes of Leasburg and Matthew Hughes and wife Michelle of St. Clair; five grandchildren, Raymond, Angelina, Rachel, Lindsey, and Michael; nieces nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Along with her parents and husbands, Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter; Marsha King and two sisters; Inez Jackson and Isabella Sparkman.

Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association are appreciated.

Patricia F. Fiedler

Pat Fiedler obit colorPatricia F. Fiedler, 76, Sullivan, died peacefully at home with her family, Saturday, January 21, 2017.  A Celebration of life gathering for Pat will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Pat, daughter of the late Elmer Das and wife Erna (Remmler) Das was born on September 23, 1940 in St. Louis.  She received her education from Lutheran High, received her B.S. in Teaching degree from Concordia Teaching College in River Forest IL.  While attending St. Paul’s College in Concordia, MO, she met and married Robert L. Fiedler.  She taught at several schools including Spring Bluff, Anaconda, and retired from St. Clair in 2004. She was an active member at Peace Lutheran Church, participated in Business and Professional Women as well as Gamma Rho along with Friday night supper club and morning coffee club being very important to her. She was very social and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends.

She is survived by her three children, Christopher Fiedler and wife Deanne of Beaufort, MO, Michael Fiedler and wife DeAnn of St. Clair and Angela Sutton and husband Richard of Los Angeles, CA; six grandchildren, Kori and Blake Fiedler, Scott Henning and Dylan, Ryan and Shelby Fiedler; one sister, Judy Norris of St, Louis; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Linda Nickel.

Deborah Tucker obit colorA Memorial Service for Deborah Jean Tucker was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Eaton Funeral Home, 347 N. Clark, Sullivan, MO. Inurnment was in Hardy Cemetery, Bourbon, MO.

Deborah was born on July 14, 1952 and passed away on February 1, 2017.

She spent many years living in Bourbon. Over the years, she enjoyed crafting, baking and time spent with her grandchildren and family.

Deborah was a loving mother of 2 sons, Brian Tucker and Brad Tucker; Grandmother to 4; great-grandmother of 6; Loving Aunt of 3 nieces and 2 nephews; great-Aunt to 5 nieces and 5 nephews; Loving sister to Barbara Tucker, Rhonda Barrett, Sharon Hargett, Kevin Avery and Kenny Avery; Loved dearly by mother Shirley Miller and father Kenneth Avery. Wade Tucker, Tania Tucker, Christine, Leslie, Jeff Hargett, Jacob Tucker, Kerstin Tucker, Cole Tucker, Isabelle Tucker, Zoey Tucker, Levi, Landon, Kenzlie Shepard, Keelyn and Khalea Mitchell,  Nick Vitale, Tiffany Vitale, Brittany Vitale, Casey Vitale, Luke Toner, JJ Toner, Tyler Hargett, Savanah Hargett, Noah, Faith, Eli, Joshua and Ethan.

David ‘Kenny’ Bombach

bombach obit colorServices for David “Kenny” Bombach, 87, of rural Japan, MO, were conducted 11 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO, with Pastor Jose LaPorte officiating.  Burial was in Crow Cemetery in rural Sullivan.

Visitation was from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan.

David Kenneth was born March 27, 1929 in St. Louis to Valentine and Nettie (Dotson) Bombach. He was one of eight children.  Kenny was raised in the Bem area. He always felt Bem was the perfect place to call home. Kenny attended school at Hamby and Tayloe schools. When he was seventeen, he joined the US Marine Corp. where he took his training at Paris Island, SC. Kenny served his country and was honorably discharged in February 1948. He was always a “proud Marine”.

As a young man, Kenny was always interested in driving big trucks. He drove for several different companies over the years. Kenny started work at McDonnell Aircraft Co. in 1956 where he worked as a machinist for ten years. He then went to work for the Meramec Mines for the next eleven years until its closure.

On June 5, 1954, Kenny was united in marriage to Edna Ruth Ruwwe and to this union three sons were born:  Kenneth David, Daniel, and Mark.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Edna; his sons and their families: David and wife, Cris, Daniel and wife, Edie all of Cuba, MO and Mark of Ridgecrest, CA; seven grandchildren: Kelvin, Minda, Dietrich, Bodie, Conrad, Cooper and Tighe; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Emma, Ethel, Evelyn, Leona, and Gertie; and two brothers, Tony and Jack.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 8770 Manchester Rd., St. Louis, MO 63144 and/or to the Crow Cemetery.

Nannie J. King

Nannie King 2Nannie J. King (nee: Ray,) of Leasburg, MO, was born on Saturday, August 18, 1917 at Leasburg, MO to the union of James Franklin and Alice Betsy (nee Halbert) Ray and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Life Care Center, Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 99 years, 5 months, and 10 days.

Nannie married Dock Walton King on May 20, 1935, in Potosi, MO, and they became parents to a total of 11 children. Mrs. King lived most of her life in Leasburg, MO. She retired from Fashion Shoe/Meramec Industries on June 1, 1983, as a master shoe trimmer.

Even though she had reached her 99th birthday, life was all too short for Nannie. She had been looking forward to her Centenary celebration. Her beloved Dr. Modad had told her that he would attend her 100th Birthday Party, and she was excited at the thought of seeing him! She was, however, also eager to see the Lord and her family that had gone on before her.

She loved being mom and spoiling her boys. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, boating, word search and jig saw puzzles, exercising, quilting and flower gardening.

Nannie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Ray; her husband, Dock King; one son, Melbourne Walton King and three infant children; one grandson, Richie King; one great-grandson Christian West; four brothers, Wilbur Donald “Barney” Ray, William Roberta “Bert” Ray, James Howard Ray, and Leonard Morris Ray; and two sisters, Velma Fife (nee Ray) and Mary Alice Land (nee Ray).

Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her seven sons, Jerry (Joan) King of Bourbon, Jim (Linda) King of Leasburg, Buddy (Terry) King of Bourbon, Richard (Becky) King of Sullivan, William (Cindy) King of Cuba, Bruce (Julie) King of Leasburg, and Brent (Denice) King of Leasburg; one brother, Charles Curtis Ray of Leasburg; two sisters, Mildred Lucille (Sylvester) Westrich of St. Ann, and Gertrude Gladeen White of Tennessee; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; cousins; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, MO.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 1 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Bro. Lane Allen, officiating.

Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, MO.

If desired, memorials would be appreciated to the Missouri Veterans Home – St. James or DAV Chapter #65.

Sanford Lee Turner

Sanford Lee Turner, of Cuba, MO, was born on Saturday, April 1, 1944 in St. Louis, MO, to Daniel Douglas Turner and Rosie Myrtle Jimmerson Turner. He passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the age of 72 years, 10 months, and 2 days.

Sanford married Sharon Phillips in March, 1965 in St. Louis, MO, and to this union two children were born. He was a truck driver for many years and retired in April, 2009 from ProDrivers Trucking Company in Oklahoma City, OK. He moved back to Cuba, MO, in January, 2011 and enjoyed his grandchildren and woodworking. He also, liked to watch wrestling on television every Tuesday night.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jearl Turner and brother-in­ law Leroy Mooring.

He is survived by his daughter Tammy (Mike) Zuzack of Bourbon, MO and son Tim Turner of Eureka, MO; sisters Janet Mooring of Hillsboro, MO and June (Tom) Smith of Mount Shennan, KY and brother Gene (Loraine) Turner of Granite City, IL; sister-in-law Myra Turner of Crystal City, MO; grandchildren  Kathryn Zuzack and Mike Zuzac Jr. of Bourbon, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services for Mildred “Sis” Wisdom, age 93, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Sullivan, were conducted 1 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.

Mildred passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Mildred, “Sis” as she was known, was born on September 5, 1923 to Charles Elmer Charboneau and Lillian Mae Hulsey Charboneau in St. Clair, MO. She grew up and attended St. Clair schools. On June 28, 1970, Sis was united in marriage to Louie Wisdom in Steelville and he preceded her in death in 1996. Together, they raised their family in Baden, MO. Sis was employed by Burkhardt Textiles for many years. She enjoyed fishing, going for rides in the country, the casino and watching TV. She was loved by her family and they will missed her very much.

Mrs. Wisdom is survived by four children, Ronald (Angie) Strothman of San Antonio, TX, Glen (Ronnie) Strothman of Imperial, MO, Evelyn Eakins of St. Louis, MO, and Donna Wisdom of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Christopher and Amanda Eakins, Corrinne O’ Brien, Donnie and Jessica Hale; two great-grandchildren, Trent Smock and Paul Hale; her little buddy Sammie; nieces, nephews, and a friend to many.

Sis was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Lillian (Hulsey) Charboneau; her husband Louie E. Wisdom; one son Kenneth Strothman; her son in-law Gary Eakins; and her brother; Kenneth Charboneau.

Memorials to Visiting Nurses Association through SSM De Paul Hospital are appreciated.

LuElla passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Missouri Baptist Hospital-St. Louis.

LuElla Irene Mohr was born January 23, 1929 in Wynne, AR the daughter of Alvin and Agnes (Gahr) Mohr. As a young girl in the midst of the Depression, she moved with her family to St. Louis in their pursuit of a new life. LuElla was active in helping her family’s many business endeavors. On November 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to Edwin Heise and to this union seven children were born. They lived in St. Louis for a time before moving the family to Stanton in 1971 and eventually to Bourbon in 1985. Although LuElla worked various jobs throughout her life, she spent many years as a Postal carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. LuElla was an active member of the St. Anthony’s Church in Sullivan, Special Olympics, and the Sullivan Senior Center. Among her greatest joys, she loved spending time with her family and especially her grandkids.

LuElla is survived by her two sons: Alden Heise and Lawrence Heise (and wife, Veronica) of Bourbon; five daughters: Patricia House (and husband Jay) of Union, MO, Alice Johnson (and husband Jay) of Sullivan, Catherine Heise of Bourbon, Anita Chapman (and husband Joe) of Bourbon, and Tina Dixon (and companion Paul Bradford) of Bourbon; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Mitchell Charles, Mickey as he was known, was born on June 12, 1956 to Robert L. and Betty J. (Sanders) Helton, Sr. in St. Louis, MO. Mickey grew up and attended Sullivan schools.  After high school, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy. Mickey spent his working years employed in the machinist trade in St. Louis until ill health forced him to retire. Mickey had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved him family very much.

Mickey is survived by his children, Tori (Thomas) Belt of Festus, MO, Michelle (Bryan) Coats of High Ridge, MO, and Mitch (Shelby) Helton of Long Beach, MS;  three siblings, Bobby Helton  (and the late Debra Sanders) of Sullivan, Becky Soltysiak of Chesterfield, MO,  Laura (Greg) Buchta of Jefferson City, MO; eight grandchildren, Chelsey Clonts,  Brittany, Stephanie, and Zachary Belt, Elyza and Bo Coats,  Bentley Hayes and Jayce Helton; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert L. Helton, Sr., and Betty J. (Sanders) Helton; and one sister Lisa Davis.

Mickey passed away February 2, 2017 at MO Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.

The Hoevelmann family received friends at First Baptist in Sullivan from 9-10 a.m., on Friday.

Mr. Hoevelmann passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at his home in Sullivan surrounded by his family.

James Allen was born on March 3, 1942 to Edgar L. “Bud” and Nana R. (Ridenhour) Hoevelmann in St. Louis, MO. He grew up and attended school in St. Louis. Jim honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1966. He was employed as a St. Louis Police Officer for a time, however, carpentry was his main vocation in life. He retired from Volk Construction in 2000. Jim was united in marriage to Patricia Vandegriffe on December 28, 1996 in Owensville, MO and they made their home in Sullivan since 2008. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, building birdhouses, watching the animals around his house and life.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Vandegriffe) Hoevelmann of Sullivan; his children, J.J. (Pat) Hoevelmann of Peoria, IL, Catina (Chris) McAmis of Wright City, MO; his mother, Margaret Hoevelmann of Manchester, MO; step-daughters; Lisa (Kirk) Olendorff of St. Charles, MO, Jennifer (Barry) Petrowsky of Wildwood, MO; 9 grandchildren, Courtney (Cory) Diener, Cassie Estes, Colten Helmig, Ethan and Grace Hoevelmann, Lili and Emma Petrowsky and Autumn and Colt Olendorff; three siblings, Jerry (Betty) Hoevelmann of Fenton, MO, Brent (Marti) Hoevelmann of Wentzville, MO and Bev (Geary) Hagen of Manchester, MO; half siblings, Lisa Barth of California and Don Barth of Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edgar L. “Bud” Hoevelmann and Nana R. (Ridenhour) Barth.

David AlexanderDavid Alexander, 86, passed away surrounded by family on Feb. 2, 2017.

He was born on July 15,1930 to Rose and Roy Alexander in Bourbon, MO. David grew up on the family farm and attended school in the Dowler Mill district of Crawford County. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in February of 1948. Honorably discharged on Feb. 12, 1952, David enlisted as a Staff Sergeant for an additional three years in the reserves. His service spanned the Korean War.

While stationed at Biggs Air Force Airfield in El Paso, TX he met the love of his life, Belen Gonzales and they were married April 5, 1952 in Bourbon, MO. In 1953, they moved to Belens hometown, Bisbee, and David began delivering gas for Brophy Garage in Lowell. His career with Phelps Dodge began in 1959 as an underground mucker and he re­tired in 1999 as a self-taught surveyor/engineer. He was also a self-taught country musician playing the guitar, fiddle, banjo, and harmonica. He loved and wrote poetry as well. David was an avid outdoors­ man who loved hunting and fishing. Upon retiring, David returned to his farming roots, finally able to work on his “gentleman’s” farm in Safford, AZ, full time. David was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Belen, who was the love of his life and whom he missed dearly. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Max (Mad­eline) and Curtis (Cleo) Alexander.

He is survived by children David Alexander, Pat (Jack) Porter, and William (Janice) Alexander as well as nine grandchildren: Tony (Susan), Rick (Adriane), and Joe (Rita) Alexander, Nick (Loren) and Scott (Brianna) Porter, Missy (Ryan) Harris, Jenny Alexander, Steven (Ashley) and Cassie (Ryan) Cameron as well as 11 great-grandchildren. David is survived by sisters Peggy Chenowith and Amy (Al) Brewington and brother Berkley (Toshiao).

From humble beginnings, David achieved great success in life by always working diligently to teach himself the skills necessary to achieve his goals. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. May he now rest in peace.

Service  was held at 1 p.m., Feb. 7, 2017, at Alex Espinosa Funeral Home, Bisbee, AZ. Burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Billy Joe Payne

Billy Joe Payne, formally of Sullivan, MO, passed away in St. Louis, MO, Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the age of 84 years old.

Billy was born on September 30, 1932 in Bourbon, MO, to Edgar O. and Margaret (nee Wilson) Payne, one of three boys. He honorably served his country in the US Army and married Minnie Louise Jost on December 11, 1954. To this union they had six children.

After returning from the service, he worked at International Shoe Factory in Sullivan, MO, until he moved to St. Louis to accept a job in the heating and cooling business for Superior Heating and Cooling. After spending many years there, he left to work for his son at Midway Heating and Cooling until his retirement.

Billy’s passion was spending time with his family. He loved sitting around with them listening to country and western music-live or on TV.

Billy is survived by his children Billy (Linda) Jost, Joann (Phil) Stolze, Larry Payne, Danny (Cheri) Payne, Ron Payne, and Donna (Dean) Grus; one brother James Payne; 11 grandchildren, Jessie Nolhng, Justin Jost, Brian Payne, Mandy Rehmer, Eric Stolze, Lindsay Payne, John Jost, Kayla Gregory, James Grus, Kelly Payne and Heidi Payne; along with many great-grandchildren.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Minnie Louise Payne and a brother Woodrow Payne.

Billy’s wishes were to be cremated. He will rest in peace at Boone Creek Cemetery Bourbon, MO.

Martha (Deaton) Mason, age 94, of Clarence, MO passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at the Clarence Care Center.

Martha is survived by 5 children, Steve Mason and wife Nora of Lincoln, NE, Mark Mason and wife Ann of Sullivan, MO, Larry Mason and wife Laura of Shelbyville, MO, Linda Dale of St. Joseph, MO, Ann Bach and husband Jeff of Mount Joy, PA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, including Sarah Rochleau and Maggie Head both of Sullivan, MO, and by 14 great-grandchildren. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Mason, and her granddaughter, Jennifer Mason.

Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday Feb. 12 at the Greening/Eagan/Hayes funeral home in Clarence, with the funeral service at 10 a.m. on Monday Feb. 13 at the Clarence United Methodist Church, with interment at the Church of the Brethren/Mennonite cemetery near Cherry Box, MO. All arrangements were under the direction of the Greening/Eagan/Hayes funeral homes.

Lytle Leo George obit colorLytle Leo George, devoted husband, loving father and loyal friend, was called to his heavenly reward, February 14, 2017, in Glen Carbon, IL. He was born June 25, 1920, in Sullivan, MO, to Lytle Jackson George and Ollie (Springer) George.

He was a flight instructor for the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. On February 22, 1946, he married Helen Jane Hussman in Sullivan. She preceded him in death, along with a sister, Oleta (George) Walker and a brother, Robert Dean George. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Susan (George) Featherstun and her husband James Michael of Glen Carbon; and a son, John David George, his wife, Beverly Kay George of Edwardsville; and granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth George-Waterfield and her husband Terry of Hillsborough, NC; a brother, James Springer George of Frisco, TX and nieces and nephews.

Leo was a member of the “Greatest Generation” having lived through the Great Depression and World War II. Growing up on the family farm along the Meramec River, he developed a love for the outdoors where he went on to spend his entire career, first as a conservation agent for the Missouri Department of Conservation in Milan, MO and later as assistant superintendent of the Busch Wildlife Refuge at Weldon Springs, MO. At the refuge, he made numerous friends among field trail enthusiasts but none had a greater impact on his life than his friendship with John M. Olin, whose black Labrador, King Buck, was the national retriever champion in 1952 and 1953.

In 1961, Olin offered Leo the manager position at Nilo Farms, the preeminent private shooting preserve near Brighton, IL. Over the next three decades, Leo hosted thousands of guests, from  captains of industry to government leaders, to celebrities from the sports and entertainment worlds. In 1974, he met the budding professional golfer, Tom Watson, and an enduring friendship was forged. Under Leo’s expert tutelage, Nilo guests refined their shooting skills on the skeet and trap fields where he would often display his mastery at hip-shooting. He was an avid gardener, fisherman and fan of Cardinal baseball.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto was in charge of arrangements. At Leo’s request, his remains were cremated. Visitation was on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto, IL from 1 p.m. until time of memorial mass at 2 p.m. That same day, friends and family were invited to a celebration of Leo’s life from 3-5 p.m. at Sunset Hills Country Club, Edwardsville, IL.
