Roy C. Long

Roy Long obit colorRoy C. Long, 79, of St. Louis, formerly of Sullivan, MO, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis.

Roy Charles was born on February 12, 1938 in St. Louis, MO, the son of James Jr. and Theola (Roewe) Long. He grew up and attended school in the Ferguson School District before entering the US Navy as a young man. While in the service, he married Dorothy Roosman on September 2, 1958 in Charleston, SC. To this union were born two children: Dale and Brenda. After serving our country, they moved back to Dellwood, MO to raise their family. Roy worked many years for the Universal Match Company and then eventually Lincoln Engineering before retiring in 2003. Dorothy passed away in 2007.

Roy had a great love for being around the water. He loved boating along with fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his son, Dale Long of St. Louis; his daughter, Brenda Casey (and husband, Kevin) of Ferguson, MO; a brother, Ralph and Frances Long of Sullivan; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy and his parents.

Funeral Mass was held 11 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Sullivan with Father Paul Telken celebrating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sullivan.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Hutchens Mortuary of Florissant, MO and then continued from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Jerry J. Woods

Jerry J. Woods obit colorJerry Woods, 77, of Sullivan, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at his home due to natural causes.

Jerry was born in the hills of Crawford County, MO on Oct. 27, 1939 the son of Oran and Dorothy (Irving) Woods.

He grew up fast and worked hard all of his life; from sawmills to three tours in Vietnam to a thirty-year career overseeing maintenance for six western states for the Federal government at the Tracy, California Depot.

During his time with the US Navy, Jerry married Karen Shaffer on June 28, 1957 in California. To this union three children were born: Jerry Jr., Cheryl, and Shawn.

After retiring, Jerry returned home to his beloved Missouri in 1993 and built a home on property that had formerly been his uncle’s farm. He once again had time to pursue his passion of training horses! His patience and persistence were unsurpassed and many a green colt became a bomb proof horse. In addition, those horses’ owners had found a lifelong friend in Jerry. Countless days in the saddle with friends passed with laughter and song.

Jerry is survived by his children, Cheryl Lundy and Jerry Woods, Jr. both of California; a sister Pat Trent of Morristown, TN; a brother, Harry Woods (and wife, Lois) of Texas; five grandchildren; one great grandson; sweetheart, Carol; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his son, Shawn; his parents; two sisters, Betty McCormick and Ginny Smith; a half-brother, Hershel; and two half sisters, Lucille Schmuke and Peggy Haskell.

Many will miss this strong man who changed the world with his hands and heart.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place from 5-7 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with a Song/Prayer service at 6:30. A private burial will be at Liberty Cemetery, Steeleville, MO.

Warren Elbert Mothershead

Warren Mothershead obit colorWarren Elbert Mothershead, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on February 22, 2017, having reached the age of eighty-five years, eight months and six days. Warren was born in St. Clair on June 16, 1931, son of Elbert Clarence Mothershead, known to all as Eb, and Clara Louise Mothershead nee Doud, known to all as Louise. On October 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to Anita Joyce Lough, known to all as Joyce, and two daughters came to bless this union.

Warren is survived by his daughters, Connie Johnston and companion, Billy Robinson, of  St. Clair, MO, and Lori Junge and husband, Russell, of St. Clair; by six grandchildren, Nicki Hill and husband, Ray, of St. Clair, David Woodruff and wife, Sandra, of Clarksville, TN, Jennifer Winters and companion, Curstin McNeil, Amanda Junge and boyfriend, Logan Gilbert, Greg Junge and Lindsey Schuetz and husband, Joe, all of St. Clair; by one sister, Jean Mothershead of St. Clair; by nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Eb and Louise Mothershead, and by his wife, Joyce Mothershead.

Warren was a Christian, having been raised in the Baptist faith and believing in the Lord as his Savior. He was a twenty-five year member of Easter Lodge 575, A.F. & A.M. of St. Clair, MO, having been initiated May 27, 1980, passed April 14, 1992 and raised May 26, 1992. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He enlisted in the National Guard on February 21, 1951, was transferred to active duty August 31, 1953 to serve in the Korean War, discharged from active duty and transferred back to National Guard on August 30, 1955. He received his honorable discharge from the National Guard on May 28, 1962, having served his country for ten years. He was a member of American Legion Post 347 and V.F.W. Post 2482 of St. Clair, as well as Elk’s Lodge 2651 of St. Clair.

Warren was a truck driver by trade, having driven over the road throughout his working career. He worked as a self employed trucker for many years and the twenty years prior to his retirement, he was employed by Yellow Freight Trucking in St. Louis, MO. He was also a retiree of Teamsters Local 682 of St. Louis, MO. Warren had many hobbies and interests but he was most passionate about music. He was a talented musician and loved playing the steel guitar. He played in a band most of his life, including the Ozark Mountaineers and most recently in Country Pure. He was a sports enthusiast and as a young man enjoyed driving as a stock car racer. He also had his pilot’s license and co-owned a plane for many years. In more recent years, he enthusiastically watched NASCAR and sports on television. He loved dogs and when he was no longer able to have one of his own, he visited his girls pets. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he cherished the time they spent together.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. John Pursley officiating. Interment with full military honors was held at Midlawn Memorial Gardens in Union, MO. Memorials may be made to the Franklin Humane Society.

Walter Stahlman

WalterStahlman obit colorWalter Stahlman, of Sullivan, MO, departed this life in Pacific, MO, on February 20, 2017, having  reached the age of eighty-three years, three months and six days. Walter was born in St. Clair, MO, on November 14, 1933, son of Phillip Stahlman and Blanche Ethel Stahlman nee Minks. On September 27, 1961, he was united in marriage to Earlene Lucille Burnett and two daughters came to bless this union.

Walter is survived by his wife, Earlene Stahlman of Sullivan, MO; by his daughters, Krista Stahlman of Pacific, MO and Karen Powers and husband, Kenneth, of St. Clair; by his grandson, Austin Hellebusch of St. Clair; by one brother, James Stahlman and wife, Marsha, of St. Charles, MO; by one sister, Velma Banderman and husband, Richard, of St. Clair; by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Blanche Stahlman, and by two brothers, Kenneth and Harold Stahlman.

Walter was a Christian and in past years had attended the Assembly of God Church in Sullivan, MO. He was a machinist by trade and member and retiree of Sheet Metal Workers, Local 777 of St. Louis, MO. For over forty years, he was employed at Precision Automotive Components Company in Washington, MO. Walter was an outdoorsman at heart and loved to go hunting and fishing, especially when his grandson went with him. Gardening was another of his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed caring for his home and maintaining his yard. Walter was happiest when he was spending time with his family and each of them held a special place in his heart.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Jim Watson officiating. Interment was in Crow Cemetery, Sullivan, MO. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

James Lawrence Hoffman

Larry Hoffman pictureJames Lawrence Hoffman, known to all as Larry, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on February 19, 2017, having reached the age of seventy-eight years, four months and sixteen days. 

Larry was born in Lonedell, MO, on October 3, 1938, son of Oscar Charles Hoffman and Nora Laverne Hoffman nee McDermott. On November 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Peggy Jo Stahlman and two sons came to bless this union.

Larry is survived by his wife, Peggy Hoffman of St. Clair, MO; by his sons, Mark Hoffman and wife, Debbie, of St. Clair and Mike  Hoffman and life companion, Angie, of Sullivan, MO; by four grandchildren, Cassandra Hoffman of St. Clair and Logan, Lauren and Landon Hoffman of Sullivan, MO; by two brothers, Gilbert Hoffman, known to most as Gib, of St. Clair and Howard Hoffman and wife, Linda, of St. Clair; by one sister, Ruth Ann Schaffart of Kewadin, MI; by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Nora Hoffman; by two brothers, Leroy and Ronald Hoffman, and by one sister, Marge Hoffman.

Larry was a Christian and life long member of St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair, MO. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo John Steck Council 4667.  He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in the Army National Guard on February 19, 1961 and receiving his honorable discharge on November 20, 1966. Throughout most of his working years, Larry worked as a driller for Pea Ridge Mine, later known as Meramec Mining  Company near Sullivan, MO. In later years, he was employed as a sheet metal journeyman for Custom Guttering Inc. in St. Clair, MO, and was a member of Sheet Metal Workers, Local 36.  Larry was passionate about  old cars and was proud of  his 1956 Ford Victoria he had restored.  He enjoyed being a member of the Route 66 Car Club and helping his sons restore cars. Although Larry had other hobbies and interests, nothing was more important to him than the time he spent with his family.He rarely missed his grandchildren’s games or other school activities and loved sitting in the side lines cheering them on.  His children and grandchildren were truly his pride and joy and he cherished the time they spent together.

Visitation was held from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with parish prayer services at 7:30 p.m. led by Father Bob Knight.  Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair, MO, with Father Joe Post officiating. Interment was in Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union, MO. In lieu of flowers, masses or memorials to Alternative Hospice may be made.

Judith A. Studdard

judith studdard obit colorJudith A. Studdard, age 70, of Bourbon passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 in St. Louis, MO.

Judy was raised at Anthonies Mill, MO, where she attended elementary school. She attended high school in Bourbon and was valedictorian of her senior class. From 1963-1967, Judy attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in German Education with a minor in mathematics. While she worked at a variety of jobs, the majority of her career was spent in education.

In 1970, she met Ray Studdard. The two were married June 4, 1971 at the First Baptist Church in Bourbon. Their only daughter, Kelli, was born in 1979.

Judy was a lifelong learner and educator, and was influential in the lives of hundreds of students. After her retirement, she continued to give back to the community through her work at Grace United Methodist Church of Sullivan. In her free time, she enjoyed crafting, quilting, and reading. Her favorite way to spend her time was in the company of friends and family, especially her grandsons.

Her passing brings great sorrow to her many family members and friends, but they will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Studdard of Bourbon, one daughter; Kelli (Tom) McNeven of Rolla, MO, two grandchildren; Oliver and Graham McNeven of Rolla, two brothers; R.D. (Jean) Kimberlin of Florida, Tracy Kimberlin of Springfield, MO, one sister; Donna (Marcus) Schaefer of Texas, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Michael Kimberlin.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Eaton Southside Chapel, 301 Sappington Bridge Road, Sullivan, MO with interment in Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, MO.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, at the Eaton Southside Chapel, Sullivan, MO.

Memorials to the Backpack Program at Grace United Methodist Church are appreciated.

LeOlin Clarence Vogt

LeOlin Clarence Vogt, 80, of Gerald, MO passed away Friday, February 24, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in  Creve Coeur.

LeOlin was born in Gerald on September 8, 1936, to the late Louis and Ella (Vogt) Vogt. On May 23, 1959, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald he was united in marriage to Irma Landwehr. He served his country with the United States Army. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald where he served on the cemetery board for many years. He had worked at LeClaire Brothers Transport and MoDot; then retiring from General Motors after 31 years; after retirement he worked for Lane Building, Rosebud Tractor and Dairy Farmers Transfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Leon Vogt on January 4, 2010; brothers, LeRoy and Fred Vogt; and sister, Elda Mae Wright.

His survivors include his wife, Irma of the home; son, Kelly Vogt of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughters, Bianca Ramirez of Owensville, Alexus Strothkamp and husband Luke of Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Shane, Benjamin, Jett and Eliana Ramirez, Blair, Kabella and Kamille Strothkamp; and many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald with pastor Glenn Hollander officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery with full military honors.

Vada Marion Valley

Vada Valley, 72, of Bourbon, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at her home in Bourbon.

Vada was born on March 20, 1944 in Chicago, IL to Robert Edwin and Alice LaVerne (Crockett) Clarke. Vada was employed as a waitress in her youth at the former I-44 Restaurant, by Brown Shoe Company in Union, K-Mart for 15 years and Walmart for 15 years. Vada married Melvin Glenwood Valley and they made their home in Bakersfield, CA since 1978. Vada had just recently moved back home to Bourbon to be near her family. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling and most recently, crocheting. She will be missed by her son, grandchildren and extended family.

She is survived by her son, Adam Valley of Bourbon; six grandchildren; one brother, Terry Clarke of Arlington, TX; two sisters, Marge Sharkey of Bourbon and Roberta DeOrnellis of Centralia, MO; other relatives and friends.

Vada was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. Clarke and Alice L. Crockett Clarke; her husband, Melvin Valley; one daughter, Audrey Christine Valley; and two sons in infancy, Robert and Aaron.

It was Vada’s wish to be cremated and services will be private.

Albert William Eoff

Eoff_pic 2 colorAlbert William Eoff, 76, of Bourbon, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Eoff, son of the late James Eoff and wife Hazel nee Adams, was born January 28, 1941 in Leasburg, MO.

On December 19, 1959, he was united in marriage to Judy Immekus in Bourbon.

He was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God church in Bourbon.

His favorite activity was horseback riding. After his retirement, he used his talent of leather work to repair saddles for others and to make leather items.

He enjoyed spending his spare time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Eoff was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Eoff; three brothers, James Eoff, Robert Eoff and Lloyd Eoff; and one sister, Gladine Land.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Eoff of Bourbon; four sons, James Eoff and wife Donna of Bourbon, Allen Eoff and wife Laurie of Bourbon, David Eoff and wife Dawn of Springfield and Matthew Eoff of Bourbon; one brother, Leroy Eoff and wife Helen of Bourbon; four sisters, Bonnie Bachover of Cuba, Dorothy Veach and husband John of Cuba, Della Cook of Cuba and Ruth Roach and husband Ron of Sullivan; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

James D. Moll

James D. Moll obit colorJames D. Moll, 75, of Rosebud, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Gasconade Manor in Owensville, Missouri.

Jim, as he was known, was born on December 8, 1941 to Theodore Daniel and Agnes Frances (Ballmann) Moll in St. Louis, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Sandra Perrigo on March 23, 1979 at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in St. Louis, Missouri. He was employed in the construction business and was president and vice president for different construction companies. Jim also co-owned and operated Triad Construction Company in St. Louis.

Jim was a super guy and everyone loved him. He never met a stranger and was a lover of animals; including his mules and many dogs and cats. Jim had polio as a child and went to live in the country with his Uncle Herbie and Aunt Sette Kettler. They made quite an impression on him and instilled a great love of the country. He would eventually make his home in rural Cuba where he and several others helped build his dream cabin. After making many weekend trips there he and Sandy retired to the farm where Jim enjoyed working on the place, riding his tractor, gardening, canning, making preserves, wine and painting. Jim was a member of the Old Threshers Club and Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church, where he was on the board.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sandy Moll, of Rosebud; one brother, John Moll and wife Betty of Columbia, Illinois; two sisters, Sister Dorothea Moll of Gould, Arkansas and Mary Anne Keller of Fenton, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Sharon (Robert) Dawson of St. Louis, Missouri and Carolyn Moll of St. Louis, Missouri; as well as additional nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; Theodore and Agnes (Ballmann) Moll; and one brother; Ted Moll.

Funeral Mass was celebrated 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Holy Martyrs of Japan Church in Sullivan, Missouri with Father Tim Henderson officiating. Interment is in Holy Martyrs Cemetery.

Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2017, at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.

Memorials to: Running Strong for Indian Youth.

Charles D. Bouse, Sr.

Charles D. Bouse Sr. obit colorCharles D. Bouse, Sr., 69, of Bourbon, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Charles was born September 19, 1947 in Anthonies Mill, MO, to the union of Carl and Rosetta (Dace) Bouse. He grew up and attended school at Metcalf and High Ridge before graduating from Bourbon High School class of 1965. He went on to attend Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO, graduating in 1969 with his Bachelor degree in Ag business. Charles married Betty Lloyd in June of 1967 and to this union, five children were born: Charles Jr., Tambra, Christine, Myra, and Stephen. After finishing college, the family moved back to Bourbon where Charles taught school and they began to raise their family. In 1971, Charles was drafted into the US Army. The family then relocated to Alaska for a brief time before returning to Missouri. The family made their home in Cuba, where Charles worked at Ridgetop Farms for the next twenty-one years.

In 1995, they moved to their farm in Bourbon. Over the years, Charles was involved in his communities and churches. He was a past president and member of the Cuba School Board. He also helped form the Crawford County Cattlemen’s Association, serving as past president. Charles taught numerous Sunday school classes, was a Royal Ranger leader and 4-H leader. He held various positions of church leadership in the last forty-five years. Most recently serving as Deacon at Sullivan First Assembly of God.

Charles loved sports, horseback riding, hunting, fishing and most anything outdoors. He enjoyed hunting trips out west with his sons, brothers and friends. He will be greatly missed for his fantastic story telling abilities. He treasured spending time with his children and grandchildren and teaching them about all of the things he loved.

Charles is survived by his wife, Betty (Lloyd) Bouse, of Bourbon; five children, Charles “Chuck” Bouse, Jr. and friend Trista Blanton of Bourbon, Tambra Sellers and husband Dr. Clyde “Butch” Sellers of Sullivan, Christine Steelman and husband Chris of Rolla, Myra Siebert and husband Dr. Sean Siebert of Cuba, Stephen Bouse and wife Misty of Bourbon; 13 grandchildren, Ethan, Cheyenne, Sophia, Simon, Cooper, Lauren, Kora, Cole, William, Samuel, Silas, Chase and Leigha; three brothers, Roger Bouse of Sullivan, Jerry Bouse and wife Patricia of Willard, MO, Larry Bouse and wife Cathy of Story, Wyoming; two sisters, Nancy Keeney and husband Jerry of St. Louis, Peggy Farmer and husband Clyde “Magoo” of Bourbon; one Sister-in-law, Rebecca Swope of Branson, MO; two Brothers-in-law, Rodney Lloyd and wife Linda of Golden, CO and John Lloyd and wife Cheryl of Sullivan, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; Carl and Rosetta (Dace) Bouse; parents-in-law, John and Maxine Lloyd; and a sister-in-law, Annabelle Bouse.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at First Assembly of God in Sullivan with Pastor Kyle Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Swan Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.

Visitation was from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at First Assembly of God, 951 Elmont Road, Sullivan, Missouri.

Leon Brune

leon brune3Leon Brune, 59, of Beaufort, passed from this life peacefully at his home on Friday,February 24, 2017.

On July 11,1987, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Carroll in Beaufort, MO.  Mr. Brune, son of the late George Brune and wife Loraine nee Brendel was born January 19, 1958 in Washington.

Mr. Brune was preceded in death by his parents,George  and Loraine Brune.

Leon attended Union High School, class of 1976. He spent many years collecting and making arrowheads. He was an avid fisherman and a loving husband and father.

He is survived by his wife,Cheryl Brune nee Carroll of Beaufort; one son, Raymond Brune of Union; one step-son, Jared Carroll of Beaufort; four brothers, Ronald Brune and wife Patricia of Leslie, Larry Brune and wife Vicky of Pacific, Norman Brune and wife Deborah of Union and Dennis Brune of Union; three  sisters, Diana Esslinger and husband Alfred of Union, Wanda Peters and husband Robert of Marthasville and Shirley Duffer and husband Michael of Union; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Immaculate  Conception Church in Union.  Interment will be at the Martin-Weirich Family Cemetary in Leslie,Missouri. A luncheon will be provided at St. John’s Lutheran Church hall in Beaufort, MO following services.

Charles Lutgen obit colorCharles E. Lutgen, 71, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017.

Charles Edward Lutgen was born January 21, 1946 in Sedalia, MO, the son of George E. and Helen L. (Lange) Lutgen.

Charles grew up and attended school in Sedalia, MO. He graduated in 1964 from Smith-Cotton High School. Charles worked various jobs over the years; however, he especially enjoyed working for Coys Moving Company and driving a tow truck.

Charles loved many things. He loved riding his motorcycle, he loved NASCAR, watching Cardinals Baseball and John Wayne Westerns. Charles could often be heard singing “The Old Rugged Cross.”

Above all, Charles loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his family. Charles was a very kind and caring person who was always there for his family. He was a tremendous uncle and enjoyed spending time with his great nieces.

Charles is survived by one son, Paul E. Williams of Sedalia, MO; one daughter, Heather Lutgen Crouch of Jonesboro, AR; one sister, Deborah Fann of Sullivan, MO; two granddaughters; Leslie Ponder (and husband Nathan) of Jonesboro, AR and Katie Crouch of Wynne, AR; two great grandsons; Aiden Ponder and Zayden Williams; one nephew, Timothy Cressley of California, MO; three nieces, Kimberly Cooper (and husband, Brad) of Springfield, IL, Kari Centunzi (and husband, Shane) of Sullivan, MO, and Kelli Hall (and James Birmingham) of Union, MO; five great nieces: Katelyn, Taylor, Brianna, Abby and Kenedie; and several other family members.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Helen L. (Lange) Lutgen.

A memorial service was held at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017 at First Missionary Baptist Church of Bourbon, Bourbon, MO.

Visitation was from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, at First Missionary Baptist Church of Bourbon.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home Sullivan and Bourbon.

Henderson ObitRay Strauby Henderson, 78, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, February 23, 2017. Ray was born on February 2, 1939, in Farmer, MO, to Leslie Ray Henderson and Helen Sue Strauby Henderson. Ray was a loving and caring brother, husband, father, and grandfather who routinely placed the needs of others above the needs of his own. As Christ came to this world to serve and not be served, Ray followed this example to the fullest.

He began his education at Vannoy Country School, and attended high school at Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green, MO. He earned his B.S. at the University of Missouri, and his Masters at Webster College in St. Louis. His teaching career as a band director started in 1960 and spanned 37 years at 10 different high schools and one college. He attended Concord Country Church and remained active in many more churches serving as a music and youth minister and choir director. Later in his career, he also wrote music theory curriculum for Florida Baptist Seminary.  Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and target practice. But his greatest joy was going to auctions and restoring antiques.

Survivors include wife of 56-1/2 years, Elizabeth Ann Pritchett Henderson; son, Kevin Henderson and daughter-in-law Bridgett and son, Seth of Colombia, MO; daughter, Crystal Elmore and son-in-law, Ed, of Tampa, FL; daughter, Kimberly Mayfield and son-in-law, Tom, and their son, Mitchell and daughter, Morgan of Grayson, GA, and niece Eldonna Steers Chestnut of Gardner, KS. Ray is preceded in death by his sister and brother in law, Betty and Eldon Steers and their son, John Leslie.

Ike Vaughn1Eileen Fern Vaughn, better known as “Ike” was born on Tuesday, December 30, 1924 at Leasburg, MO, to the union of John Franklin and Mamie (Nee: Campbell) Phillips and left from this life on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Sullivan, MO, at the age of 92 years.

Eileen “Ike” lived and worked most all of her life in Leasburg. Early in life, Ike worked in the souvenir and ticket shop at Onondaga Cave and then she went to work for the Leasburg Telephone Exchange. She left the telephone exchange to become the owner and operator of the Leasburg Station. She worked there seven days a week for nearly twenty five years.

Most recently, Ike was the owner and operator of the Chat’ N Chew Restaurant in Leasburg. On any given Tuesday evening, you could find the Chat’ N Chew full of musicians having a jam session. They were known as the “knights of the round table”. The restaurant was featured on CNN and Channel 4 highlighting social life in rural America.

She was a member of the American Legion Post of Leasburg, sixty-year member of the American Legion Post Auxiliary, served on the Board of Directors for the Village Apartments of Leasburg and she served on many various committees for the Leasburg community. Ike was truly involved in the community that she lived in.

Eileen made a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1970 at the Cross Roads Baptist Church of Leasburg. She was baptized in the Meramec River near the old Hog Trough Bridge and had been a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church for many years.

She will always be remembered for her many acts of kindness to others who were in need of anything, including her friendship. She was a person of quick wit, which made a visit with her an enjoyable and often one of laughter. In her spare time Ike enjoyed crocheting afghans for all of her family and friends,

Ike was a loving daughter, sister, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and friend of many. She will be forever remembered and never forgotten by those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents John and Mamie Phillips; three brothers Johnnie Phillips, Estel Phillips and Forrest Phillips; three sisters Golden Kline, Barbara Boren and Imo Ransom; infant grandson; dear friend Cammie Garrison; and other relatives and friends.

Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving sons Steve and wife Jackie Vaughn of Viburnum, MO, and Guy and wife Teresa Vaughn of Sullivan; six grandchildren Todd and wife Beth Vaughn of Pennsylvania, Josie and husband Tim Turnbough of Cuba, Jay Vaughn of St. Charles, MO, Jessica and husband Rob Williamson of Sullivan, Chelsea Vaughn of Sullivan and McKenzie Vaughn of Washington, MO; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; special nephew Rick Ransom of Leasburg; treasured niece Debra Ransom of Leasburg; dear friend Gladys Pennock of Sullivan; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation as held Friday, February 24, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba. Special music will be “Beulah Land” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.

Interment and prayers will follow at the Cross Roads Cemetery, Leasburg, MO.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cross Roads Baptist Church clergy fund in Ike’s memory.

Stlvester Butch Minx obit colorSylvester Thurlow Minx, known to most as Butch, departed this life in Rolla, MO, on February 27, 2017, having reached the age of seventy-three years, nine months and two days. Butch was born in Cadet, MO, on May 25, 1943, son of Thomas Cerlow Minx and Mary Gladys Minx nee Head. On April 25, 1970, he was united in marriage to Fannie Jo Bernsen, known to all as Jo, and two children came to bless this union.

Butch is survived by his wife Jo Minx of Lonedell, MO; by his children, Jason Minx and wife, Lori, of Ponte Verde, FL, and Tammy Jo Geisert and husband, Tim, of St. Clair, MO; by three brothers, Tommy Minx of Richwoods, MO and twin brothers Jerry Minx and wife, Wilma, of Richwoods and Garry Minx of Pacific, MO; by eight sisters, Leona Gibson and husband, Billy, of Ozark, MO, Wilma Dierker of Grubville, MO, Frieda Slankard of Sullivan, MO, Carol Dodson of Sullivan, Joanne Ossendorf and husband, Butch, of St. Clair, Rose Dierker and husband, David, of Lonedell, Elaine Boyer and husband, James, of House Springs, MO, and Peggy Robinson of Villa Ridge, MO; by six grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Minx, and by two brothers, Donald Minx and Paul Ray Minx.

Butch was a Christian, having been raised in the Baptist faith and believing in the Lord as his Savior. He was proud to have served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, enlisting on July 15, 1963, and receiving his honorable discharge on June 16, 1967. After his discharge from the military he started working for Hot Point as a sales representative. They were later bought out by General Electric then Hobart and when he retired after thirty-seven years, he was working in sales in the commercial division of the company. In addition to working full time, he loved raising cattle and hay. He enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors caring for his home and property. He was a talented musician and playing the guitar and singing in The Minx Brothers Band was his favorite pastime. He was truly a family man and having family barbeques and reunions was what he enjoyed the most and he was passionate about making sure everyone had a good time. Each of his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he cherished the time they spent together.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2017, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. John Pursley officiating. Entombment with full military honors was held at the Haven of Rest Mausoleum in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, MO.

David W. Dunn

David Dunn obitDavid W. Dunn, age 60, of Sullivan, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

David was born on January 10, 1957 to Richard Owen and Laura J. (Hoehne) Dunn in Kirkwood, MO. The Dunn family moved to the Sullivan area in 1967 when David was in the sixth grade in Spring Bluff. He graduated from Sullivan High school class of 1975. He continued his education and became a Journeyman Electrician, the trade he worked in until his death.

On July 4, 1979, David was married to Jane Kovalski in Sullivan and three children were born to their marriage; David, Kathryn and Cortney.  David was first a family man. He loved his children and grandchildren and spoiled the grandchildren in every way he could, especially with cookies. He enjoyed working and restoring old tractors, riding horses and listening to “His” music. David was of the Lutheran faith.

He is survived by his wife, Jane (Kovalski) Dunn of Sullivan; one son, David (Jessica) Dunn of Leslie; two daughters, Kathryn Dunn of Sullivan and Cortney Dunn of Washington; five grandchildren, Reece, Kennedy, Silas, Allison and David III; two brothers, Kenneth Dunn of Sullivan, Darryl (Shelby) Dunn of Sullivan; one sister, Donna (Sid) Giebler of Sullivan; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Laura (Hoehne) Dunn; two brothers and sisters in law, Rick and Margy Dunn and Russell and Sarah Dunn; and one nephew, R.D. Dunn.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Lew Ensor officiating. Interment will follow in Cave Spring Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

robert sealRobert L. Seal, age 59, of Cuba, MO, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at his home due to natural causes.

Robert Lee was born April 6, 1957 in St. Louis, MO, the son of William and Lois (Schlothauer) Seal. As a young child, Robert lived in various places (St. Louis, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and South America). He attended school mainly in Morrisville, PA. Robert graduated in 1976 from Pennsbury High School in Fairless Hills, PA. Robert then attended Bucks County Community College before journeying down the Appalachian Trail for the next couple of years. Throughout his entire life, he had a heart for others. For many years, he worked at Mountain View Children’s Home in Georgia helping disabled adults. Robert worked many other various jobs before returning to Missouri in 1990. Many will remember him as the “Fudge Man” from selling fudge at many tourist shops throughout the country. He was even known to sing a tune for his customers.

Robert loved the Beatles and photography and was an avid walker and backpacker. He will be missed dearly by family and friends.

Robert is survived by his wife, Linda (Inglis) Seal of Cuba, MO; two sons, Jackson and Michael Markley of Cuba, MO; four grandchildren, Christopher, Alley, Kora and Kai Markley; one brother, Martin Seal; two sisters, Suzanne (Robert) Lesage of Spring Valley, CA, Linda (Monty) Wright of Cuba, MO; special nieces, Sarah Nance of Ocean Beach, CA and Elizabeth Lesage of Le Mesa, CA; special nephew, Robbie Lesage of Spring Valley, CA; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Brandy Markley Grady.

Visitation for Robert was from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.

Joseph Thomas Haefner, 73, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.

Born in St. Louis to Raymond and Viola Haefner.

Survived by his wife Patricia Haefner (Degenhart) and daughters, Bridget Jennings (Lon), Brenna Henderson (Michael), and Brandee Oppelt (Mark), and eight grandchildren.

Tom was an ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church for thirty years.

He was a remedial reading teacher for Granite City, IL and a volunteer for the Reading Is Fundamental Program for 24 years and put thousands of books in the hands of children too poor to purchase books.

Tom was a cross country coach for Granite City High School.

He also volunteered for the meals program at St. Peter and Paul Church in Soulard where homeless could get a meal without question.

Tom donated his body to the St. Louis University Medical School.

A memorial mass will be celebrated March 18 at 11  a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Sullivan, MO.

Peggy.colorPeggy O. Chenoweth, age 88, of Sullivan, MO passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Life Care Center.

Peggy was born on August 16, 1928  in Bourbon, MO to Roy Erastus and Rose (Miller) Alexander. She grew up and attended school in Bourbon. Peggy moved to St. Louis and married Kenneth McBride and two sons, Brad and Mike, were born to their union. The family moved to Georgia where they lived for many years relocating back to Missouri in 1972. Peggy was employed with State Farm Insurance in both Georgia and Missouri. She enjoyed sewing and collecting dolls for her collection. The last years of her life were spent listening to Clinton’s Blue Grass Band and dancing the night away. 

Peggy is survived by two sons, Brad (Joyce) McBride of Jadwin, MO, Michael McBride of Owensville; seven grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; one brother, Berkley Alexander of Bourbon; one sister, Amy Brewington of Bourbon;special friend; Clinton Howell of Sullivan; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Roy Erastus and Rose (Miller) Alexander; and three brothers; Max, Dean and Curtis Alexander

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, MO.

Visitation wase from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
